ARE YOU PROTECTED?
Opti-Shield* --- The Top Opti-Spark Protector
Problem: LT-1 Curse ... Help Needed
The General Motors 5.7 liter LT-1 engine, in production from 1992-1996, was unique in that the electronic distributor, called the “opti-spark”, was located toward the front of the engine directly below the water pump. All automobile water pumps have a seepage hole which in time allows coolant to leak alerting the vehicle’s owner/operator of impending water pump failure. Because of its positioning, the seepage hole of the LT-1 water pump lets coolant drain directly onto the computerized “opti-spark” distributor causing it to immediately short out shutting down the engine. This problem became known as the “LT-1 curse” in many collector car circles.
Solution: An Easy Fix
The Opti-Shield Optispark Protection Device could save you up to $1.000.00 in needless additional repair and replacement cost.
The Opti-Shield covers the bottom half of the LT-1 water pump and acts in the same way that the rain gutter functions on your house. It diverts the coolant to either side of the opti-spark distributor thus preventing an opti-spark failure due to the water pump seepage. Installation: Speedy Application
